AmeriCorps Members learn and perform activities that enhance services provided by the health center and the schools. They assist health center patients and community residents by providing health education to help patients understand how to live a healthy lifestyle. They sustain the Fitness and Nutrition (FAN) club at the elementary school to help students who have a high BMI (Body Mass Index) become more active and make healthier food choices. The members also perform the annual reproductive health sessions for the high school and elementary school, as well as support the Teen Clinic and its duties needed for its success. Anderson Valley Health Center’s AmeriCorps works very closely with the AmeriCorps assigned with the elementary school. This provides an excellent collaboration between both organizations in its mission to help improve the community’s well-being.
